Page 3 of 3 The document window The document window is the area where you will be doing all the editing. This is where you place text, images, and design the layout. - Ruler
The ruler sits on the top and left side of the document window. You can hide or show the ruler by choosing View > Show/Hide Rulers. The ruler is very helpful with measuring. For example, if you want to create a text area that is 1 inch by 3 inch, you can look at the ruler while you draw the box. - Guides
The guides show in in purple and blue help display information about columns, objects, and other formatting details. In the image above, the purple guides show the columns in the page. These guides are helpful when editing but sometimes these guides can get in the way. To show or hide guides, choose View > Grids & Guides and select the items that you want to show or hide. - Status bar
On the bottom is the status bar where you can adjust the view percent and page to edit. The status bar also shows the status of your document; if it is saved or not.
