Page 4 of 5 The third methodNow we're going to use the third method that is used for selectively painting the areas that you want this golden glow Photoshop effect to appear. To begin, change the blending mode to Soft Light. Fill the layer mask with black. Now we're going to manually paint the areas. Select the Brush tool from the toolbar. Set the Hardness to around 20%. This will give it a very soft edge.
Make sure you're using the default foreground and background colors by pressing D. Your foreground color should now be white and the background color black. Use the brush tool to selectively paint the areas that you want to apply this tint to. To quickly change your brush size, press the [ or ] keys on your keyboard. The image below shows the effect and the layer mask that I painted. Notice how sloppy the layer mask looks? Because we used a brush with a soft edge, the mistakes don't look very apparent.
